Shorty Fest Presented by Acura Announces “Cultural Block Party” FREE Outdoor Event!

NEW ORLEANS – To commemorate the 10th anniversary of Shorty Fest presented by Acura, the Trombone Shorty Foundation will host a FREE “CulturalBlockParty” on May 1 at 5 p.m., outside of the iconic New Orleans music venue, Tipitina’s. That evening, Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews will be inducted into the Tipi7na’s “Walk of Fame,” cementing his place in history along with his mentors that includes the Neville Brothers, Irma Thomas, and Dr. John.

“I remember my first gig at Tips like it was yesterday,” says Andrews. “It’s such an honor to be recognized in this way alongside my musical heroes, and to have this take place during Shorty Fest makes it even more special.” The Cultural Block Party celebrates the city’s rich cultural heritage in a uniquely New Orleans way— joyfully out in the street! Tipitina’s will block off Napoleon Avenue in front of the venue starting at 5 p.m. and welcome music fans of all ages to join in.

This year the Cultural Block Party will feature students from the Trombone Shorty Academy (past and present), New Orleans brass bands and Mardi Gras Indians, a ba[le of the high school marching bands featuring Sophie B. Wright and McDonogh 35 High School Marching Bands, the Rising Star Fife and Drum band from North Mississippi, and a special Hai7an “Rara” procession with RAM.
