University of Holy Cross celebrates 30 years of Annual Prayer Breakfast

The university will host a milestone event Nov. 13 at Algiers campus

NEW ORLEANS – The University of Holy Cross (UHC) will celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Annual Prayer Breakfast on Friday, Nov. 13 at 7:30 a.m. in the Blessed Basil Moreau Center at the Algiers campus (4123 Woodland Drive, New Orleans).

This year, the breakfast will feature remarks from five students who represent different faith traditions. Each student will speak about the role that prayer plays in their life and how the University of Holy Cross has supported their faith throughout their studies. Their reflections underline the Marianite mission of educating minds and hearts, and welcoming students of every belief. The student-led keynote also reflects UHC’s view that an inclusive environment empowers students to do their best in the classroom and beyond.

UHC was founded in 1916 by the Marianites of Holy Cross, a congregation whose work dates to 1848. The university was originally created to educate and prepare teachers to serve in schools across South Louisiana, addressing vital community needs in the aftermath of yellow fever. Today, it offers more than 50 undergraduate and graduate programs and remains the only four-year university on the West Bank of New Orleans, with distinctive career pathways in nursing, education, counseling and health sciences, among other disciplines.

“The Annual Prayer Breakfast has become one of our university’s most meaningful traditions, a morning to pause before the holidays and reflect on the year we’ve shared,” said Dr. Stanton F. McNeely III, president of the University of Holy Cross. “For 30 years, this morning has brought our students, faculty, staff and neighbors to the same table. It’s a morning to gather, reflect and give thanks for the people who make Holy Cross exceptional.”
