NEW ORLEANS – The Trombone Shorty Foundation, in partnership with the Gia Maione Prima Foundation, announced the return of Trombone Shorty’s Tunes for Toys, taking place Thursday, Dec. 3, at Tipitina’s in New Orleans.
Tunes for Toys brings the community together for an unforgettable night of live music, generosity, and celebration – all in support of local children and families during the holiday season.
This year’s concert features a special collaboration between Nashville’s Black Opry Revue and the Trombone Shorty Foundation Alumni Band, alongside performances by NewBreed Brass Band and the talented young musicians of the Trombone Shorty Academy.
Organizers share the evening also highlights the foundation’s growing commitment to connecting New Orleans musicians with artists and creative communities across the country, creating new opportunities for collaboration, mentorship and professional growth.
“We’re especially excited to welcome Black Opry Revue to New Orleans for this year’s Tunes for Toys,” said Bill Taylor, founding executive director of the Trombone Shorty Foundation. “Beyond bringing incredible music to the stage, collaborations like this are central to our mission. By building relationships with innovative artists and music communities in places like Nashville, we’re opening new doors for our students and alumni—creating meaningful connections, professional opportunities, and pathways to sustainable careers in music. And to do all of that while giving back to our New Orleans community makes this event even more special.”
Admission is free and open to the public (ages 18+) with the donation of a new, unwrapped toy. Doors open at 7 p.m., with live music beginning at 8 p.m.
The evening is made possible by a presenting sponsorship from the Gia Maione Prima Foundation. “Tunes for Toys is a wonderful way to kick off the holiday season, and we are thrilled to continue supporting this exceptional event,” said Anthony J. Sylvester, trustee of the Gia Maione Prima Foundation. “We are especially proud to partner with the Trombone Shorty Foundation in helping bring joy to children and families during the holiday season while supporting such a meaningful community initiative.”
The toys will be distributed on Saturday, Dec. 5, from 1-3 p.m. at Warren Easton High School during a toy giveaway event. There will be refreshments and live music. The event is free and open to the public (any child who attends will receive a free toy).
