HAMMOND — North Oaks Health is excited to welcome Nurse Practitioner Austin McAndrew to the North Oaks Cardiovascular Institute in Hammond.

Dual-certified as a board-certified family nurse practitioner (FNP-BC) and adult-gerontology acute care nurse practitioner (AGACNP-BC) by the American Nurses Credentialing Center, McAndrew specializes in caring for patients with heart conditions, including those undergoing heart and chest surgery.

His background in critical care nursing and dual certification allows McAndrew to care for both routine and complex cardiac cases. He is especially passionate about helping patients navigate surgery and achieve the best possible recovery.

“My approach to patient care is centered on treating each patient with individualized care rather than focusing solely on the diagnosis,” McAndrew shares.

“My critical care background has taught me that effective care combines evidence-based medicine with communication, compassion and an understanding of each patient’s individual goals and circumstances. I strive to build trust with every patient and work collaboratively with their healthcare team to provide safe, thorough, individualized care.”

McAndrew earned his bachelor’s degree in nursing from Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond and his master’s degree in nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. He joined the North Oaks Health team as a nurse technician in 2021 and has since expanded his education and clinical expertise through years of experience caring for cardiovascular, trauma and surgical patients.

Nurse practitioners are nationally certified, state-licensed medical professionals who can practice independently, working in close collaboration with their supervising physician.
