NEW ORLEANS – Deutsches Haus will once again bring Germany’s favorite festival to New Orleans on the banks of Bayou St. John for six days over 3 weekends on October 9-10, 16-17, and 23-24. Friday hours are 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday hours are 1 p.m. to 11 p.m.
Everyone is German during Oktoberfest, so join the fun and come to Bavaria on the Bayou at 1700 Moss St. Tickets are $10. Children 12 years and younger are free. Come by kayak, car, Uber, Lyft, bike, bus or foot. Lederhosen or dirndls optional.
You can experience authentic German foods, live music, dances, and other activities, such as Masskrugstemmen (beer stein holding contest), Schnitzelbank (humorous German group sing-along), and 20 German bier selections that are only offered at Oktoberfest. The Chicken Dance will be ever-present, as will the classic sounds of Volkstümliche Musik, a form of popular German music often referred to as oom-pah music.
With over 28,000 festivalgoers, Oktoberfest rates of consumption are impressive, which is a measure of a good party in New Orleans, German-style. Here is it by the numbers:
