NEW ORLEANS – The Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation (GNOSF) recently announced the return of the Chevron Scholar Athlete of the Week program, an initiative that will provide scholarships and recognition to outstanding high school seniors from the Greater New Orleans region. Now in its 10th year, this program is designed to support local student-athletes in their pursuit of higher education.
Beginning Sept. 21, one student-athlete will be selected weekly to receive the Chevron Scholar Athlete of the Week award, along with a $2,000 scholarship to the college of their choice. As a long-term partner of the Sports Foundation, Chevron believes supporting the students of today helps to build the workforce of tomorrow, making this partnership a natural fit for both organizations for a decade.
“At Chevron, we believe investing in students is one of the most meaningful ways we can contribute to the local community,” said Chevron Public Affairs Manager Jeremy Haken. “By partnering with the Sports Foundation on these scholarships, Chevron hopes to inspire the next generation of innovators. This, in turn, will strengthen the workforce and support Louisiana’s economy for years to come. We’re proud to be a part of it.”
To be eligible for the Chevron Scholar Athlete of the Week program, applicants must meet the following criteria:
- High School Senior graduating in May of 2027.
- Resident within the 10-parish Greater New Orleans region (Orleans, Jefferson, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Tammany, Washington, Tangipahoa, St. Charles, St. James, and St. John the Baptist).
- Participation in high school sports for at least three years, including senior year.
- Not attending college on a full athletic scholarship.
- Minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA.
Applications for the program will be open through Friday, Sept. 4, and will be awarded on a rolling basis throughout the Fall school semester. Each recipient will be recognized at a school assembly, game or local event with a check presentation and award. At the end of the semester, all winners will be invited to the 2026 New Orleans Bowl where they will be presented, recognized on the field and invited to the field during the trophy presentation post-game.
