Louisiana Children’s Museum Hosts 4th Annual Kindergarten Kickoff

NEW ORLEANS — Starting kindergarten is an exciting milestone, but it can also bring first-day jitters for children and families alike. To help ease the transition, Louisiana Children’s Museum (LCM) will host its fourth annual Kindergarten Kickoff on Thursday, July 30, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Museum in New Orleans City Park.

Sponsored by Manning Family Children’s, Atmos Energy and other generous supporters, the free community event gives children the opportunity to practice real kindergarten skills while parents and caregivers connect with educators and access valuable resources to help prepare for the first day of school. Advance registration is required.

“Starting kindergarten is a major milestone for both children and their families,” said Dr. Shannon Blady, Chief Learning Officer at Louisiana Children’s Museum. “Kindergarten Kickoff helps build confidence through hands-on experiences while giving families the tools, resources and connections they need to support a successful transition into school.”

Throughout the Museum, families will have opportunities to meet with kindergarten teachers, ask questions and learn practical tips for preparing children for the classroom. Spanish and English-speaking kindergarten teachers will also lead a special presentation designed to help families navigate the transition to school.

Children will rotate through interactive activity stations that mirror common kindergarten experiences, including:

  • Cutting with scissors
  • Packing folders into backpacks
  • Balancing lunch trays
  • Writing their names
  • School bus orientation and safety
  • Speech and hearing screenings
  • Storytime
  • Healthy eating activities
  • Movement and exercise activities

The event is made possible through additional support from sponsors LUBA Workers’ Comp and For Providers by Providers (4PXP) as well as community partners New Orleans Public Library, New Orleans Public Schools, New Orleans Speech & Hearing Center, and Rhythm Rangers.
