THIBODAUX – Nicholls State University’s Tutorial and Academic Enhancement Center has once again been awarded Level III Certification as a tutor training program by the College Reading and Learning Association.
Nicholls is one of three institutions within the University of Louisiana System to be CRLA-certified and is the only institution to maintain the Level III “Master Level” status.
This certification represents the highest level of accreditation offered by the CRLA’s International Tutor Training Program Certification and distinguishes Nicholls as a leader in providing elite academic support services.
Nicholls’ tutoring center has been certified at the highest level since 2003, successfully undergoing the intensive recertification process every four years. However, the most recent recertification was more demanding.
Following the release of new CRLA standards, outcomes and assessments in 2021, the center overhauled its program and training materials to meet modern academic needs for the 2022 and 2024 cycles. The application process involves months of preparation and a comprehensive peer review.
“Maintaining this certification is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our staff and tutors,” said Director of Student Success and Retention Dr. Amy Hebert. “It reinforces our commitment to providing Nicholls students with an academic support system that empowers them to reach their full academic potential.”
The Level III certification confirms that the center has excelled in maintaining high standards for tutor selection, requiring tutors to complete a minimum of 30 hours of specialized training and 75 hours of direct, documented tutoring experience with students.
It ensures the center can provide assistance across a wide range of challenging disciplines, including College Algebra, Trigonometry and Business Calculus. Students also have access to 24/7 online support and intensive writing reviews through Tutor.com, which is accessible through their course management system.
CRLA’s strict requirements for formal, individualized tutor evaluations assure that every session, whether in-person or conducted remotely, meets international benchmarks for quality and ethical practice.
