NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans City Park is starting the semiquincentennial celebration a day early.
On Friday, July 3, City Park Conservancy (CPC) will welcome the community to Happy 3rd of July: A Community Celebration presented by Gulf Coast Bank & Trust Company at the Goldring/Woldenberg Great Lawn.
One of City Park’s signature summer traditions, this year’s celebration commemorates the 250th anniversary of the United States Declaration of Independence while introducing expanded community programming, including local performances, activations, and local food vendors alongside the event’s longstanding traditions.
Live performances begin at 6 p.m. featuring Girls Play Trumpets Too under the artistic direction of Troy Sawyer, Alexis & the Sanity, and The New Orleans Mystics, followed by the Marine Forces Reserve Rock Band at 8:15 p.m. The evening culminates with a spectacular fireworks display over the Peristyle at 9pm.
“City Park has always been a place where New Orleanians come together to celebrate, reflect, and create lasting memories,” said CPC President & CEO Rebecca Dietz. “As we commemorate our nation’s 250th anniversary, we’re proud to build upon one of our most cherished traditions, creating even more opportunities for our community to celebrate together at the heart of the city.”
Guests are encouraged to bring blankets and lawn chairs and arrive early to enjoy this free community celebration. Beer, seltzers, soft drinks, water, and wine will be available for purchase, along with items from Chick-fil-A, Dat Dog, French Truck Coffee, Hubig’s Pies, Imperial Woodpecker Sno-Balls, and La Cocinita.
Friends of City Park Members enjoy exclusive access to City Putt restrooms for the number of individuals in their membership level – proof of active membership required.
City Park Conservancy will once again offer sponsorship opportunities for groups and organizations. Packages include an 8’ x 8’ space, complimentary beverages, and access to indoor restrooms. Also returning this year will be the Liberty Lounge presented by Southern Eagle offering guests a relaxed and shaded space to enjoy the concert and a wide selection of beverages.
