NEW ORLEANS — The Louisiana Children’s Museum will host “Earn & Learn Financial Day” on Saturday, May 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., in partnership with the Society of Louisiana Certified Public Accountants (LCPA) and Junior Achievement (JA). This engaging, family-focused event is designed to introduce children to the fundamentals of financial literacy through interactive, hands-on learning experiences, also featuring education provided by Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans.
The Earn & Learn initiatives invite children to explore real-world financial concepts in a playful environment. Throughout the museum’s galleries, young participants can complete “jobs” to earn wooden tokens, which they can then choose to save or spend at the Earn & Learn Shop. The program is presented in partnership with LCPA, whose volunteers will be on-site guiding children through hands-on activities. Children will take on roles in familiar settings such as a grocery store, café and riverfront, gaining a better understanding of earning, saving and decision-making.
“Earn & Learn provides a fun, interactive experience where children can learn essential financial skills through play. They’ll earn tokens at various stations, make spending decisions at the “Earn & Learn Shop,” and learn about saving, donating, and career pathways,” said Cloreece Davis, CPS, Member of Society of Louisiana CPAs.
In addition to hands-on play, the program will introduce children to key financial concepts, including money identification, saving, charitable giving and early career exploration. These activities are designed to build confidence and foster financial awareness from an early age. Junior Achievement of Greater New Orleans will offer activities for older children.
The day will also feature informative discussions for parents and caregivers, offering practical tools and guidance on how to talk to children about money and plan for their financial futures. Topics will include the child tax credit, 529 college savings plans, allowances and how to have age-appropriate financial conversations with children
Scheduled caregiver sessions include:
- 11:30 a.m. – Setting Up an Allowance to Teach Financial Responsibility
- 2:30 p.m. – 529 Plans: Start Saving for College Now
“Earn & Learn Financial Literacy Day reflects our commitment to equipping children and families with essential life skills through play-based learning,” said Tifferney White, CEO of Louisiana Children’s Museum. “By partnering with financial experts and educators, we’re helping families build a strong foundation for lifelong financial well-being.”
