NEW ORLEANS – The music, spirit and influence of Allen Toussaint will soon reach young audiences through “The Prince of New Orleans,” a beautifully illustrated children’s book written by his daughter, Alison Toussaint.
Set against the city’s rich cultural backdrop, publishers share “The Prince of New Orleans” offers an engaging introduction to one of its most celebrated composers and producers. Through vivid storytelling and artwork, the book captures Allen Toussaint’s creativity, humility and lasting impact on music and culture.
The project was officially introduced on April 29 at McKinley Studios, featuring a live reading by his daughter and the book’s author, Alison Toussaint, accompanied by her son on piano, performing on Allen Toussaint’s actual Steinway.
“This book is about more than my father’s music,” said Alison Toussaint. “It’s about sharing his spirit, his love for New Orleans, and inspiring young people to see the beauty and creativity all around them.”
With its rich storytelling and vibrant illustrations, the book offers an inviting entry point for children to explore the city’s cultural and musical heritage. Plans are underway to connect the book with schools and community audiences through readings and special appearances.
