Master P Launches RESONATE Music Program for New Orleans Students

NEW ORLEANS2K Foundations, the philanthropic arm of 2K, teamed up with the Team Hope Foundation, founded by platinum rapper Percy ‘Master P’ Miller, and Studio Express to launch the RESONATE Music Program. The six-week program uses music, mentorship, and creative expression to support mental health and help students build confidence and coping skills.

On Tuesday, April 21, 2K Foundations and the Team Hope Foundation hosted a surprise celebration for the 220 participating students at Success at Thurgood Marshall School in New Orleans, featuring appearances from Master P, Ronnie Singh, better known as ”Ronnie 2K”, 2K’s Head of Lifestyle & Content Marketing and New Orleans Pelican Rising Star Jeremiah Fears.

“Music has given so much to me and has helped me with my mental health over the years,” said Master P about the program. “As a massive basketball fan, I knew that 2KFoundations understands not only the sport, but how much music means to the culture—and how important it is for mental health. Partnering with 2K Foundations and Studio Express made it possible to bring this to these students as a tool for lifelong success.”

“We were excited to team up with Master P, Team Hope, and Studio Express on this,” said Singh. “Music has always been a huge part of how we connect with our community at 2K, but it’s bigger than that, it’s a real outlet. Seeing how this program gives kids a way to express themselves, build confidence, and find their voice—that’s what it’s all about. If they walk away from this believing in themselves a little more, that’s a win for us.”

Developed by Studio Express, RESONATE is a group-based program that uses music exploration, rhythm, songwriting, and creative audio tools to help young people build emotional awareness, confidence, and healthy coping strategies. Rooted in culturally relevant, participant-led expression, students are encouraged to draw from their own experiences and use music as a tool for reflection, connection, and growth.

Facilitated by mental health and music professionals, the program equips students with hands-on creative skills and mentorship while helping normalize conversations around mental health. Through genres like hip-hop and R&B, as well as activities such as beat-making and lyric writing, students learn to express themselves, process emotions, and build skills they can carry beyond the program. The curriculum also provides tools to manage stress, including the pressures of upcoming state testing.

“Our partnership with 2K Foundations and Team HOPE gives RESONATE the needed support and autonomy to develop a curriculum that is relevant, creative and tailored to help young people express themselves, be heard, and believe in their own voice.” said Dr. Tierra Alexander. Founder and Director of Studio Express Programs & Curriculum.

The program featured session themes such as “My Soundtrack,” which helped students explore how music reflects emotions, memories, and personal experiences. Through these sessions, students learned to identify emotional cues in music, connect them to their own feelings, and build foundational emotional awareness.
