NEW ORLEANS – The New Orleans Ballet Association (NOBA) will present Hubbard Street Dance Chicago on Saturday, March 21, at 7:30 p.m. at the Mahalia Jackson Theater for the Performing Arts, closing NOBA’s 2025–26 Main Stage Season. The performance will feature rare works by Broadway legend Bob Fosse, including a dance that inspired Beyoncé’s iconic “Single Ladies” choreography. Hubbard Street returns to New Orleans for the first time in eight years with a powerful repertory program that bridges Broadway legacy and contemporary concert dance.
At the center of the evening are works created by Fosse and his longtime collaborator Gwen Verdon, including Sweet Gwen Suite and Percussion IV. With permission from the Verdon Fosse Legacy, Hubbard Street Dance Chicago is the only concert dance company in the world authorized to perform Fosse’s choreography. Known for his unmistakable movement style, Fosse’s work blends theatrical intensity with razor-sharp precision and continues to influence dance across Broadway, film, and popular culture.
The program also features contemporary works by leading choreographic voices, including Matthew Rushing of Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Hubbard Street resident choreographer and Mikhail Baryshnikov protégé Aszure Barton, and internationally celebrated Spanish choreographer Nacho Duato. Together, these works reflect a vibrant range of contemporary styles shaped by some of modern dance’s most influential artistic legacies.
Under the leadership of Artistic Director Linda-Denise Fisher-Harrell, Hubbard Street continues to build on its legacy while championing new creative voices. Fisher-Harrell, a former longtime Principal dancer with Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater who previously performed on the Mahalia Jackson Theater stage with the company, brings a deep commitment to artistry, humanity, and storytelling to Hubbard Street as the first alumna, first woman, and first person of color to lead the organization.
Hubbard Street Dance Chicago has been praised by The New York Times, which wrote that the company “ought to bottle itself as a cure for the ills of the era.” The Chicago Sun-Times calls the dancers “so sublime, it’s close to hypnotizing.” This season finale offers New Orleans audiences the opportunity to experience a premiere American dance company’s electrifying presence live onstage.
