NEW ORLEANS — After a sold out show in 2024, Washington-based multidisciplinary artist and performer Amica Hunter (they/them) is returning to Mudlark Public Theatre with their smash hit show ANATOMICA: A Comedy About Meat, Bones, & The Skin You’re In. Ever wondered what it would be like to be a worm? Well you’re not alone – ANATOMICA covers this terrain and more in a bizarre, charming, genre-defying comedy that examines (and judges) animal bodies of all shapes and sizes. The show features a guided meditation from the perspective of a worm, a slew of scientific animal facts alongside wild anthropomorphic speculations, a few unhinged demonstrations such as a butt-faced crab (you’ll just have to come to find out), and even communication with the audience via a long plastic tube.

Part stand up, part story-telling, and part clown, ANATOMICA is a hilarious, captivating, and sometimes-unsettling comedy about the pros and cons of different skeletal systems, and the horrors and delights of being trapped inside a body. Amica reviews the three skeletal systems found in earthly organisms, and discusses the limitations of each one. A wanna-be-scientist who dropped out of college to attend clown school, Amica brings an unvarnished passion and undeniable humor to these corporeal mysteries. ANATOMICA is an investigation of the marvelous diversity of nature that celebrates the absurdity of pain, fatigue, and ultimately decay – but in a really relaxed and fun way.

Amica has been touring ANATOMICA in the United States and Canada since its debut in February 2023. The show won Best of The Fest in the Cincinnati Fringe in 2024, Spirit of the Fringe in Asheville in 2025, and has since played to sold out houses in Vancouver, BC, Olympia, WA, New Orleans, LA, and Edmonton, AB, where the show garnered a 5 star review and was held over for a special post-festival run:

5 stars out of 5

“Anatomica could hardly be more charming and funny… A brilliant stand-up set disguised as a serious science lesson, Amica Hunter’s show is like the mutant love child of Laurie Anderson and David Attenborough…an hour of chewy, fleshy charm.”

-The Edmonton Journal

You may recognize Amica from their previous Fringe shows. In 2024, Amica and fellow touring artist Bruce Ryan Costella debuted two shows, seaMAN: A Queer Nautical Comedy, and The COWbaret: An Unhinged Bovine Variety Show, under their collaborative duo name: 2 Sleepy Ratguys. Before that, Amica created and toured shows internationally as A Little Bit Off, the acrobatic physical comedy duo known for their slapstick stylings and strong vintage aesthetics (shows: Beau & Aero, Bella Culpa, Bad Habits, & A Grave Mistake). Co-founded by Amica and David Cantor, A Little Bit Off  toured the fringe for a decade and won over two dozen awards including:  Best of Fest in San Diego (x2), Orlando, and Victoria, as well as Edmonton Fringe Artist’s Pick (2015) and Patron’s Pick (2016). Amica is also the co-founder of an annual queer horror theatre festival in Portland, OR, called The Stage Fright Festival, and works as a Sensitive Exam Training Associate between tours, instructing medical students in learning technical and trauma-informed approaches to giving chest and pelvic exams. In their nearly nonexistent spare time, Amica runs Funerals For Life, an immersive event service offering “fake funerals” to the living for birthday parties, etc.

In addition to ANATOMICA, Amica will be performing another surreal physical comedy work, TUBE TIED:  A Mind-Numbing Absolutely Horseshit “Show” About TUBES! …And…Secrets? as part of the upcoming New Orleans Giant Puppet Festival. This stand-up-lay-down squirm-around comedy set  will play four times between April 9th and 13th at Beanlandia .
