NEW ORLEANS – The Royal Sonesta New Orleans will host its annual signature event, The Greasing of the Poles, at 10 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 13, with the 2026 theme “Royally Superstitious” – a playful nod to the event falling on Friday the 13th and a celebration of the supernatural and mysterious spirit of New Orleans. Originally a practical measure to deter revelers from climbing the hotel’s support poles, the event has since evolved into a one-of-a-kind, star-studded extravaganza that draws crowds from near and far.
The 56th annual event will bring its legendary and music-filled spectacle to Bourbon Street as local icons shimmy their way up to the balcony suites of The Royal Sonesta New Orleans and compete to earn the coveted title of 2026 Greasing Champion.
WHEN: Friday, Feb. 13, at 10 a.m.
WHERE: The Royal Sonesta New Orleans, located at 300 Bourbon St., and via Facebook live stream @RoyalSonestaNO.
PARTICIPANTS: Celebrated WGNO host and anchor, Kenny Lopez, will serve as master of ceremonies and bring his charismatic energy to the stage as participants show off their best Greasing moves.
This year’s contestants include Caleb Morse – professional yapper and co-host of the Big Bad Boot podcast; NOLA-born-and-raised Burlesque dancer, Bella Blue; the Queen of Cajun Country, Amanda Shaw; and Ron Orleans, NOLA insider and social media personality.
The esteemed judging panel for this year’s festivities will be none other than cocktail legend Chris Hannah, beloved beverage director and partner at Jewel of the South and Manolito; stand-up comedian and LGBTQIA+ advocate, Ryan Anthony Rogers; President & CEO of New Orleans & Company, Walt Leger; and Gloria Wagner Gifford of global champagne house Moët Hennessy – a proud partner of the annual Greasing of the Poles event.
Returning to perform this year is Leroy Jones and the Original Hurricane Brass Band, whose live jazz tunes set the tone for this high-energy event. Other performers include the 610 Stompers, New Orleans’ favorite all-male dance troupe, and the Mardi Gras Indians led by the legendary Queen Cherice.
ATTENDANCE: Free to attend, locals and visitors are invited to join the crowd gathered outside of The Royal Sonesta New Orleans and enjoy this hilarious and raucous display while soaking in the festive views, including a custom balcony suite installation designed by Sparkle & Swag.
