NEW ORLEANS – Ochsner Blood Bank has announced upcoming blood donation events in the Greater New Orleans area for the month of February. Ochsner is working to meet people where they are by bringing blood donation opportunities to locations throughout southeastern Louisiana. Appointments can be made online; however, walk-ups are welcome.
Now through Feb. 18 (or as supplies last), donors who give blood will receive a Mardi Gras-themed T-shirt. Blood donors who donate Feb. 19 to 28 will receive a red stainless steel tumbler.
In celebration of Valentine’s Day, Ochsner is highlighting their ongoing “Date n Donate” promotion: when you bring along a friend or significant other who has never donated with Ochsner (or hasn’t in at least two years), and you both donate blood, you can claim a restaurant e-gift card on Ochsner’s website.
While all blood types are accepted, they are especially in need of platelets and Type O red cells. Your donation plays a role in saving the lives of our patients and those in our community.
Blood donors must:
- Be at least 17 years old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
- Be over cold or flu symptoms for 72 hours.
- Have had no dental work (including cleaning) in the past 72 hours.
- Have not donated whole blood in the last 8 weeks.
- Have had no transfusions for 3 months.
- Have not lived with a person who has had hepatitis in the past 3 months.
- Have had no tattoos in the past 3 months from a facility that is unlicensed or not regulated by a U.S. state.
