New Orleans Museum of Art Hosts Harmonia Rosales Book Event With CCH Pounder

NEW ORLEANS – New Orleans Museum of Art (NOMA) announced they will host acclaimed artist Harmonia Rosales in celebration of her new book, “Chronicles of Ori: An African Epic.” The evening will open with a book signing, followed by a moderated conversation between Rosales and actor and art collector CCH Pounder.

“Chronicles of Ori” is the debut book by Rosales, retelling the West African myths she has long treasured in an enthralling pic that spans the birth of the universe to the modern world of colonialism and resistance.

While the original stories of the Orishas were passed down through traditional oral storytelling, “Chronicles of Ori” presents a linear narrative framework, weaving age-old and her own ancestral knowledge to shape a sweeping and singular literary experience.

At the center of these linked tales is the bond, sometimes fraying, between the Orishas and the humans who worship them. It was the Orishas who made humans, and who gave them their most precious resource: their Oris, or destinies. Vividly brought to life by Rosales’s artwork, Chronicles of Ori will enlighten and delight readers for years to come.

Rosales’s 27 luminous paintings enhance each story, simultaneously honoring the beautiful physicality of the human form while evoking the transcendent spiritual world.
