Local Artist Chris Wilson Debuts New Children’s Book ‘Franny François Saves Mardi Gras’

A love letter to our city, and a heartwarming tale about what makes our traditions special

NEW ORLEANS — New Orleans artist Chris Wilson is proud to announce the release of her new children’s book, Franny François Saves Mardi Gras, an original story that captures the spirit of our city and its most important holiday.

Set against the background of Fat Tuesday, Wilson takes the reader on a beautifully illustrated walk through New Orleans’ iconic landmarks, and introduces them to Franny François, a brave girl who takes on a mission she can only complete with the help of others.

“Franny François is the story of every child who grew up here,” says Wilson. “New Orleans is a city where you have to be quick-thinking and self-reliant; but also, life only happens within the context of relationships and community. We need each other to make it work.”

Chris and her late husband, Bill Wilson, experienced this firsthand. They chose New Orleans as their family’s home in 1999. Here they raised children, rebuilt their lives after Hurricane Katrina, and worked to make New Orleans even stronger.

A lifelong artist, Franny François Saves Mardi Gras is Wilson’s first children’s book.

“My daughter falls asleep holding her book,” says one reader. “She loves Franny François, and I catch her re-creating the story with her dolls and stuffed animals. It is adorable how it brings Mardi Gras alive for her.”

The book is now available for sale on Amazon.com. A series of community events — including readings, signings, and art workshops for children — will be announced in the coming weeks.
