NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans will host its final two public meetings on Tuesday, July 23 at the Algiers Regional Library (3014 Holiday Dr, New Orleans, LA 70131), and Wednesday, July 24 at the East New Orleans Regional Library (5641 Read Blvd, New Orleans, LA 70127), as part of the ongoing update to the City’s Hazard Mitigation Action Plan (HMAP). Both interactive meetings will begin at 5:30 p.m. and will provide community members with the chance to collaborate on mitigation strategy development.
Community members are encouraged to attend and help identify areas of the city at higher risk from natural hazards and discuss proposed actions to reduce risks. Feedback from the public helps shape the action items included in the updated plan and ensures it reflects the priorities of the whole community.
HMAP is a FEMA-required document that maintains the City’s eligibility for federal disaster assistance programs – both before and after disaster events. These programs provide funding for programs such as individual home elevations, stormwater infrastructure improvements, and urban flood mitigation efforts across the city.
The plan is updated every five years, with the last update completed in 2020. This current update will build on past planning efforts and incorporate new community input to better address the wide range of hazards faced by the city.
Community participation is vital to the success of the plan. Join us to help build a more resilient New Orleans.
