City of New Orleans Releases Draft Electric Transportation Roadmap for Public Comment

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans, led by the Office of Resilience & Sustainability, today announced the release of the draft Electric Transportation Roadmap, a comprehensive plan to guide New Orleans’ transition to cleaner, more equitable transportation. The City invites the public to review the draft and share feedback through Monday, July 7.

Developed over the past twelve months, the Electric Transportation Roadmap reflects extensive community engagement, technical analysis, and collaboration with public and private stakeholders. It draws on national best practices to ensure that New Orleans is prepared to equitably expand access to electric transportation options that meet the needs of all residents.

The Roadmap outlines a path to achieving the City’s goal of having 40% of all vehicles in New Orleans be electric by 2035. With the global electric vehicle (EV) market projected to exceed $1 trillion by 2030, this initiative will position New Orleans to take advantage of new economic opportunities, create jobs, and foster local business growth. The key actions and strategies in the Roadmap aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, improve air quality, and support economic opportunity through workforce development and clean energy investments.

“This plan is about creating a more sustainable and connected city,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “By planning ahead and working with industry and government partners, we can ensure every resident benefits from the transition to electric transportation.”

“The Electric Transportation Roadmap reflects what we’ve heard from residents, businesses, and industry experts,” said Greg Nichols, Deputy Chief Resilience Officer for the City of New Orleans. “It’s a practical, forward-looking strategy to reduce emissions, expand mobility options, and support a just energy transition in New Orleans.”

Residents, business owners, advocacy organizations, and other stakeholders are encouraged to read the draft report and executive summary and submit their comments using the online form available at: https://nola.gov/next/resilience-sustainability/transportation/transportation-electrification.

Feedback will be used to finalize the Roadmap this summer and guide implementation efforts across city departments and partner agencies.

Public comment deadline: Monday, July 7.
