NEW ORLEANS – The Mayor’s Office of Homeless Services and Strategy (OHSS) has partnered with Rooms To Go to provide new furniture for some of the City’s most vulnerable residents. This generous donation will be used to furnish new, transitional housing units for unhoused residents in New Orleans who have been impacted by the decommissioning of homeless encampments.
“We are incredibly grateful for this generous donation from Rooms To Go,” said Nathaniel Fields, Director of OHSS. “We hope that this partnership with the Rooms to Go furniture store will continue for years to come. This donation is just one example of how businesses can come together with our City to help those in need of getting back on their feet.”
The items donated serviced up to 50 families, which included complete bedroom sets, mattresses, and tables and chairs that will greatly improve living conditions for transitioning residents.
“Rooms To Go is a big supporter of furniture banks in all our trade areas, so when Neighbors Rise contacted us, we were happy to help,” said Janis Altshuler, Sr. Vice President at Rooms To Go. “We understand that people coming out of homelessness often have nowhere to sit, eat or sleep and we are pleased that this donation directly benefits those starting over.”
OHSS works closely with Continuum of Care (CoC) partners Unity of Greater New Orleans and Travelers Aid Society of Greater New Orleans to ensure fair and equitable treatment across the board. The partnership between Rooms To Go and the City of New Orleans was made possible by the Neighbors Rise organization, which has been assisting unhoused residents transitioning into permanent housing since 2020.
