Louisiana’s First Hybrid School to Open This Fall in Metairie, Accepting Applications

State-Funded Charter School Accepting Applications Through March 15

METAIRIE — In October, the Discovery Schools Network, a high-performing charter school system, announced a ground-breaking program that blends traditional learning styles with an innovative, virtual experience. Discovery Fusion Health Sciences Academy, one of Louisiana’s first hybrid schools, will allow students to adapt their schedule to their individual needs with virtual and on-campus classes.

Discovery Fusion has carefully designed technology and teacher training to ensure seamless integration between online and offline components, creating a cohesive learning experience. Students can study course material at their own pace, promoting independent learning skills and providing flexibility for those with different learning styles. The virtual platform facilitates greater interaction and collaboration through online discussions, forums, and digital tools when students are not physically in the classroom.

“During the pandemic, educators were forced to implement a virtual learning environment. For some students and parents, online learning was a practical solution, leading to a rapid demand for hybrid schools,” said Chief Executive Officer, Patty Glaser. “Discovery is always ahead of the curve, and we know that this hybrid virtual model will appeal to many students in the state who want the flexibility of a virtual school, but with the stability and option of a campus base that offers face-to-face interactions with teachers.”

The strategic vision behind Discovery Fusion is to initially open to students entering grades 5th-8th for 2024-25. At full scale, Discovery Fusion will serve grades 1st-12th.

With campuses in Baton Rouge and the Greater New Orleans area, Discovery Fusion is a tuition-free charter school operated by the Discovery Schools network, implementing the structures and best practices that have contributed to the success of the Discovery model. Discovery Schools operates three charter schools in Louisiana serving over 3,100 students in grades PK-12.

Discovery Fusion is now accepting applications for students across the state entering grades 5th-8th for the 2024-25 school year. To ensure a student is not waitlisted, prospective families are encouraged to apply for the 2024-25 school year by March 15, 2024. Parents can apply online at www.discoveryapplication.com.
