Corey Miller Awarded Professional Conservationist of The Year by Louisiana Wildlife Federation

NEW ORLEANS — Corey Miller, Pontchartrain Conservancy’s community engagement director was recently named the 2024 Professional Conservationist of the Year by the Louisiana Wildlife Federation.

The Professional Conservationist of the Year award is given to an individual whose outstanding accomplishments, in a compensated professional capacity, have made a significant contribution to the management, enhancement or protection of Louisiana’s fish, wildlife, air, water, soil or forest resources, or related recreational opportunities. A panel of independent judges, with a wide range of conservation fields, selects the awardee.

“Working to protect Louisiana’s natural resources and the communities that depend on them is something that truly motivates me every single day,” said Corey Miller, community engagement director at Pontchartrain Conservancy. “We all have the responsibility to help make sure that environment of our great state is protected and remains resilient for future generations.”

As the community engagement director for Pontchartrain Conservancy and previously in his work for the Coalition to Restore Coastal Louisiana, Miller has implemented multiple community outreach, education and inclusivity initiatives related to coastal restoration and engagement of new conservation leaders.

“We are so very proud of Corey and the work he has done,” said Kristi Trail, executive director of Pontchartrain Conservancy. “He epitomizes the qualities of a conservationist and grasps the significance of our state’s precious natural resources for its survival. It’s gratifying to see his efforts recognized.”

Miller will be celebrated, along with the seven other Conservation Achievement Awards recipients, at the 58th Conservation Achievement Awards Banquet in Baton Rouge April 12, 2024.

Pontchartrain Conservancy is a leading environmental advocacy organization dedicated to protecting the water, land, and the future of the Pontchartrain Basin, a 10,000 square mile watershed encompassing 16 Louisiana parishes.
