NEW ORLEANS – On this first day of Carnival, the day we begin eating king cake, The Southern Food & Beverage Museum (SoFAB) is showing off its fully restored McKenzie’s sign. The sign was restored by Big Sexy Neon. SoFAB is also celebrating the lighting of the Piggly Wiggly sign. These two signs are part of the growing collection of the Culinary Heritage Sign Gallery in the museum’s rafters and the event will kick-off a year of commemorations of the culinary organization’s 20th anniversary. Attendees will have many photo ops with the newly unveiled McKenzie’s sign.
There will be king cake sponsored by Rouses, king cake-flavored coffee sponsored by Parish Coffee and the NOLA Coffee Festival. In addition, there will be children’s activities as well as a book signing by Matt Haines, author of the “Big Book of King Cake.”
The unveiling and lighting events are free with SoFab Museum admission, and they will conclude in time for any other Twelfth Night first day of Carnival events that are planned.
