NEW ORLEANS – Many restaurants around New Orleans have announced New Year’s Eve specials and menus.
Mister Mao
There’s always fun to be had at Mister Mao and New Year’s is no exception. Helmed by Chef/Owner Sophina Uong, ring in the new year on Sunday, Dec. 31, with House of Prime Rib – a festive four-course prix fixe dinner. Featuring signature bold and inventive dishes for $85 per person, diners can start with a Little Gem Salad with pickled beet, egg mimosa, fried oyster crackers, scallion, and pink dressing. The main course, served family-style is Roast Prime Rib of Beef with turmeric creamed greens, mashed Yukon gold potatoes, Dutch baby cream of hot ass horseradish, and beef tallow jus. Save room for Dark Chocolate Peppermint Tart or a delightful Bananas Foster Cream Pie. Mister Mao will also offer vegetarian-pescatarian-gluten-free options (must be pre-ordered), such as Puppy Drum (4lbs GLUTEN FREE) with fingerling, asparagus, saffron, and pimento aioli; and King Trumpet Mushroom with fennel, satsuma, spinach risotto, and herb salad. Mister Mao will also kick off the new year with its a la carte Walk of Shame Dim Sum brunch on Monday, Jan. 1. With three seatings at 12 p.m., 2 p.m., and 4 p.m., the restaurant will offer an array of dim sum, available off the menu, as well as rotating on the pushcart, including Chinese Sausage + Crab Fried Rice with schmaltz; Sheng Jian Bao – pan-fried pork dumplings; Char Siu Chicken Baked Buns with Dutch Crunch; Singapore Curry Fried Tofu; Star Anise Pork Belly + Braised Soybeans; Boiled Shrimp Dumplings with black vinegar sauce; and more. On Sunday, Dec. 31, Tujague’s – the second oldest restaurant in New Orleans – will offer a delicious four-course prix fixe New Year’s Eve menu prepared by Executive Chef Gus Martin for $90 per person (plus tax and gratuity). From 5 p.m. – 9:30 p.m., guests will relish in Seafood Gumbo with Louisiana popcorn rice, followed by Truffled Gulf Shrimp and Crab Salad with crisp phyllo and baby lettuces. this New Year’s Eve the team will host a Caviar & Champagne & Fried Chicken event from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. to celebrate the new year in partnership with Caviar Star.
