Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Fund Program Disburses All Funding, Prevents Thousands Of Pandemic Foreclosures

BATON ROUGE — Governor John Bel Edwards announced that the Louisiana Homeowner Assistance Fund has disbursed all program funding received from the U.S. Department of the Treasury for pandemic mortgage assistance to eligible homeowners. The federally funded relief program assisted homeowners financially affected by COVID-19 who were behind on their mortgages and at risk of foreclosure.

Louisiana received $146.7 million in funding and provided up to $50,000 per eligible homeowner. Since launching in January 2022, LA HAF approved $136,587,217 in mortgage assistance for 7,793 homeowners throughout the state.

“As one of the first Homeowner Assistance Fund programs in the country to launch, this program provided a critical pathway to assistance for thousands of Louisiana homeowners who struggled to maintain their monthly mortgage payments because of the pandemic,” Gov. Edwards said. “LA HAF brought a sense of security and relief to our residents during a time when so many were at risk of losing their homes, and I’m grateful to everyone who worked hard to ensure help was there when Louisianans need it.”

The statewide program was administered by the Louisiana Office of Community Development and funded through the American Rescue Plan Act, which provided $10 billion in federal relief nationwide for vulnerable homeowners. For more information, visit the program website.
