NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that as of Nov. 22, funds are available for a community-based, non-profit organization to operate the Low Barrier Homeless Shelter.
Organizations interested in applying for 2024 funding are required to submit a Notice of Funding Availability (NOFA) application to the Office of Housing Policy and Community Development (OCD) at NOFA@nola.gov no later than Friday, Dec. 8 by 3 p.m. The maximum award for the project under this NOFA is $3 million.
“Since its inception, the City’s Low Barrier Shelter has been more than temporary housing for the unsheltered; it has also been a gateway to permanent housing,” said OCD Director Tyra Johnson Brown. “We would like to thank the Start Corporation for six successful years of operating the shelter and for navigating over 800 individuals to permanent housing. As the shelter has expanded its bed capacity, the City is seeking a new operator to continue this successful path using an innovative low-barrier approach.”
Applications must be completed electronically using the forms supplied with this NOFA. The City urges applicants to utilize a 12-point font size when replying to questions on the applications to facilitate proficient reading by scorers. The subject line must state “2024 Low Barrier Shelter NOFA Application – Your Agency’s Name.” Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered. Proposals must be completed at the time of submission. No addendums will be accepted after the deadline.
Potential applicants should visit nola.gov/community-development/programs-and-funding/, or contact Madelyn Cosey Sanchez, OCD Deputy Director, at (504) 658-4214 or mcsanchez@nola.gov for more information.
