NEW ORLEANS – Capoeira New Orleans and the Capoeira and Brazilian Cultural Arts Center have announced the appointment of Porsche “Maratona” Jackson, DBA, as their new Executive Director.
Porsche Jackson’s more than 12 years of Capoeira experience and training, combined with a deep passion for promoting community-based programs, will help to further advance the mission of the organization that is set to celebrate its 10th anniversary next year.
Jackson will manage all day-to-day operations for Capoeira New Orleans, as well as guide its education and community programs. She will also lead the Board of Directors in fundraising efforts and community engagement initiatives for the Capoeira and Brazilian Cultural Arts Center.
Mestre Cocada, also known as Rogerio da Silva, founder of Capoeira New Orleans says, “She is more than ready to take on this new role. I am confident in her abilities and her passion for this community which will create endless possibilities for both organizations.”
The aim of Capoeira New Orleans is to promote awareness of Brazilian culture through the Afro-Brazilian arts, primarily Capoeira. With a large focus on creating safe spaces for youth here in New Orleans, as well as in Goioerê, Paraná, a rural town in southern Brazil, to develop a greater sense of self and well-being. Capoeira and its rich history not only create an atmosphere for physical fitness, respect and discipline but also for personal and social growth and creative expression. Our community invests funds from annual fundraising initiatives into local and international programs that create opportunities for kids and adults of all ages.
