Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office Now Accepting Applications for the Junior Civic Leadership Academy

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that applications are now open for the Junior Civic Leadership Academy (JCLA). The Mayor’s Neighborhood Engagement Office, in partnership with the Mayor’s Office of Youth and Families, is offering the youth of New Orleans the opportunity to participate in this year’s Junior Civic Leadership Academy (JCLA). This initiative from Mayor LaToya Cantrell is a free, six-week interactive program that provides an in-depth look at City government while empowering youth to become leaders in their communities.

Applications are available online at www.nola.gov/jclaApplications will be accepted until Friday, May 19, at 5 p.m. or until capacity is reached.

Who can participate in Junior Civic Leadership Academy?

Youth between the ages of 13 – 17 who live in New Orleans and are interested in learning more about City government and ways to better impact their community.

Schedule

The 2023 JCLA session will take place every Saturday from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m., with the exclusion of July 1.

  • June 3: The Organization and Vision of City Government
  • June 10: The Mechanics of City Government
  • June 17: Developing and Revitalizing Our Communities
  • June 24: Public Safety
  • July 8: Youth, Family and Health Services
  • July 15: Graduation and Looking Ahead
