New Orleans Chamber Mardi Gras Reception Touts Louisiana Welcome

WASHINGTON D.C. — More than 100 patrons and visitors celebrated carnival at the New Orleans Chamber of Commerce’s inaugural Welcome Reception at Washington Mardi Gras Jan. 26 at the Churchill Hotel.

Guests included U.S. Representative Troy Carter, Sen. Bill Cassidy, (R-La.), Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser, and Louisiana business and association leaders. Sen. Cassidy and Lt. Gov. Nungesser addressed the crowd with Cassidy speaking on energy policy and Nungesser sharing the history of Washington Mardi Gras.

“Creating an event at Washington Mardi Gras where we could bring together chamber leaders and government officials at such an iconic celebration of Louisiana culture and tradition at such a special time of year was a natural for us,” said Sandra Lombana Lindquist, CCE, president & CEO of the New Orleans Chamber. “The annual celebration is always a fun and excellent opportunity to foster business development and growth.”

Established in 1943 by the Louisiana State Society, Washington Mardi Gras presents an opportunity for displaced Louisiana residents and their friends around the nation to celebrate Louisiana heritage and bring carnival to Washington, D.C. The event involves and delights government and elected officials as well.
