NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced that more than $1 million in late fees were forgiven, and approximately $68.8 million was collected from residents as a result of the Amnesty Late Fee Forgiveness Program.
“We are very pleased with the outcome of the Amnesty Program, which provided our residents with a clean slate on past due accounts and increased the City’s revenue to continue these vital services,” said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. “The City of New Orleans is committed to continuing to utilize every available resource to meet our residents where they are to provide critical relief as we are all still feeling the lasting impacts of the pandemic.”
The City’s Amnesty program provided an opportunity for residents to pay outstanding fines for City services without late penalties or additional fees from Oct. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022. Late fees for brake tags were also forgiven between October and November 2022.
