WHY: Clesi’s means crawfish. The New Orleanians who run Clesi’s Seafood Restaurant knows the significance of fresh Crawfish being back on the table. Although it’s early in the season, local harvesters are hard at work, and the Mid-City establishment is honoring the occasion the only way they know how – a celebratory boil.
Generally warmer air is providing a more consistent supply of mudbugs from Louisiana production areas making the return of daily boils a reality just in time for the holiday season. Siblings James Clesi, Carlo Clesi, and Sonya DiCarlo have made Clesi’s a global destination for locals and tourists for the unique food gathering. Since crawfish are caught within a day or days of delivery to the restaurant, the price per pound could vary daily. Freezing temperatures or heavy rain may also affect each daily boil – this is Louisiana, after all.
“The return of a reliable crawfish supply and our return to regular hours are a bit of normalcy we all need,” said co-owner Sonya DiCarlo. “The last two years have been tough, but the majority of our veteran employees are returning to greet the customers we’ve been missing. It feels a little like the family is getting together for Christmas.”
In Louisiana, we gather around our tables to do more than just eat. We gather for the community. We love how food draws us together and helps create memories we’ll hold dear forever. Food, particularly Louisiana food, warms the soul. In addition to crawfish, Clesi’s will also always have their signature Crawfish Mac & Cheese, Fried Catfish, Po-boys, Chicken and Sausage Jambalaya, Gumbo, and Crawfish Queso available for dining at the restaurant or ordering for a celebration dinner or holiday party. You can also enjoy drinks at Clesi’s full bar with local draft beer, liquor, signature cocktails, and daiquiris.
