NY Native Launches Gourmet Corner Store Concept in Uptown New Orleans

Chef Jaryd Kase is reinventing a shuttered New Orleans landmark to cater to busy families with creative, healthy fare after its pickup/delivery success

NEW ORLEANS

WHO: Bodega New Orleans (Bodega-NOLA.com)

WHAT: Bodega New Orleans announces their expansion plans and new Passover menu for pickup/delivery

WHERE: 3633 Annunciation Street, New Orleans, LA 70115

WHEN: Soft Opening scheduled for first week of April 2023
PICKUP/DELIVERY: Daily at 5:00 PM, Store hours daily 11:00 AM – 7:00 PM

WHY: The former site of the Barcia’s Grocery in the Uptown area near Tchoupitoulas is getting a new purpose. The family-run po-boy shop closed at 3633 Annunciation Street will now cater to families in a new way as Bodega New Orleans expands from delivery/pickup to brick and mortar. In order to reach more busy families with healthy and delicious options, the team at Bodega New Orleans will revitalize the space and bring energy back to the area.

Following the success of Bodega New Orleans’ pickup and delivery options, spread through social media and word of mouth, Chef Jaryd Kase is expanding his capacity to include dine-in and grab-and-go options for lunch and dinner, with plans to expand into breakfast down the line.

“New Orleans is my home but I’m originally from New York, where you’ll find bodegas – convenient stores on every corner,” said Kase. “The name Bodega is a play on that because this is New Orleans’ version of a corner store. The idea is to provide home-cooked, nutritious meals to busy families like mine. Families, especially those with two working parents, don’t have time to make the kind of food they want to feed their kids. We saw this hole in the market and people have really responded positively.”

Success has come from delivering to audiences not often targeted with New Orleans’ traditional focus on large, indulgent dining experiences. For example, the menu for the upcoming Jewish holiday of Passover is particularly notable as there aren’t often options for families beyond the homemade – especially during busy weeks of local festivals.

“This year, our Passover menu options include the traditional and those with our local flare like “Dirty Rice” Matzo, Gefilte Fish, Matzo Ball Soup, and Cola-braised Lamb Shanks,” said Kase.

Pickup and delivery orders for the 2023 Passover observance (Pesach) must be placed by March 31st for a pickup/delivery on April 5th. Other seasonal and “imported” options will be available daily such as vegan and meat-free options for Catholics abstaining during Lent as well as global options like Senegalese Yassa Chicken – a recipe Kase picked up while running economic development programs in the country of Senegal.

Chef Jaryd Kase left the world of management consulting and global philanthropy to return to the restaurant industry where he spent more than a decade. His passion for food is only rivaled by his passion to give back to the city he now calls home.

Bodega New Orleans will feature décor with several accents paying tribute to the previous po-boy landmark as well as the surrounding neighborhood. The anticipated open date is April 4th, but you’ll still be able to celebrate the global tastes at home until then.
