BATON ROUGE — A resolution condemning the city of New Orleans’ burdensome restrictions on civil liberties related to COVID-19 was overwhelmingly adopted by the Louisiana Republican State Central Committee (RSCC) at the August meeting of the LAGOP’s governing body.
District 30 State Representative and RSCC Member Chuck Owen of Leesville introduced the resolution to put the party on record in opposition to the myriad of policies implemented at the direction of the New Orleans Mayor that coerce citizens engaging in commerce in the city to be vaccinated or undertake the expense of having COVID-19 tests administered.
Furthermore, the overreaching rules compel businesses to enforce the Mayor’s rules and obligate individuals to divulge their private medical information.
“While New Orleans might be bordered by the Mississippi River and Lake Pontchartrain, the city is not an island separated from the rest of the state and country concerning our sacred constitutional civil liberties…..tyranny is at our doorstep if this is happening in Louisiana,’ said Representative Owen.
“I hope my colleagues in the legislature and the governor will follow the state Republican Party’s lead in seeking to overturn these egregious policies that threaten our freedoms and businesses struggling to come back from the COVID-19 lockdown,” he said.
The Louisiana Republican State Central Committee had already unanimously adopted a resolution opposing the implementation of so-called COVID-19 passports and blocking access to public facilities to those who have not been vaccinated or could not provide documentation of having been vaccinated.
