Benjamin Franklin High School Named No. 1 High School in Louisiana by U.S. News & Report

NEW ORLEANSBenjamin Franklin High School (BFHS) announced that it has once again been ranked the top public high school in Louisiana by U.S. News & World Report. In the latest rankings, BFHS also placed No. 24 among charter schools nationwide and earned a spot in the national Top 100 out of more than 24,000 high schools, making it the only school in Louisiana to achieve this distinction. This places BFHS in the top 0.4% of high schools in the United States.

“This achievement is a reflection of our students’ curiosity, ambition, and drive,” said BFHS CEO Alex Jarrell. “Being the only school in the state to reach the national Top 100 shows what’s possible when our students set high goals, embrace challenges, and work together with their teachers and families.”

BFHS has long been recognized for its rigorous academics and strong student outcomes. This year, 94% of students scored a 3 or higher on their Advanced Placement, or AP, exams, with 19% earning the top score of 5 and 42% achieving AP Scholar status. ACT performance is similarly strong, with seven perfect scores of 36 and 31% of students earning a 30 or above. These results underscore the combined effort of students, teachers and families, as well as the school’s commitment to preparing students for college and future success.

“We are a competitive school with high expectations and even higher support,” said Principal Dr. Kendall McManus-Thomas. “Beyond that, we are a school where students are loved and encouraged to be the best, authentic versions of themselves. Our school community works hard, and we like to show the infinite potential of our young people. Above all, we know that partnership makes our success possible: students tackling rigorous courses, teachers developing innovative curriculum, and families supporting their children every step of the way. This recognition is a celebration of the entire BFHS community. Let’s go!”

Benjamin Franklin High School serves grades 9–12, with a total enrollment of 1,056 students and a student-teacher ratio of 17:1. As a selective admissions charter school, BFHS attracts top talent and fosters a diverse, inclusive environment: 61% of students are from minority backgrounds and 32% are economically disadvantaged.

“Benjamin Franklin High School exemplifies the high standards and innovative spirit that define our public schools,” said Dr. Fateama Fulmore, superintendent of NOLA Public Schools. “This No. 1 ranking in Louisiana is a testament to the dedication of our students, educators, staff, and families. We celebrate this achievement and look forward to building on it in the years to come.”

BFHS congratulates its entire community on this well-deserved honor and invites families, students, and alumni to celebrate this recognition as a milestone in its ongoing pursuit of academic excellence.
