NEW ORLEANS — The Urban League of Louisiana, in partnership with the Louisiana Community and Technical College System (LCTCS), is proud to announce a new opportunity to increase awareness and enrollment in high-demand apprenticeship programs that lead to sustainable, high-paying careers in growing industries. Focusing on connecting unemployed individuals and career-changers to exciting opportunities, the apprenticeships available include wind, solar, and hydrogen energy, automotive technology, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, drones, construction, and linework.

“We know that talent is everywhere, but opportunity isn’t,” said Urban League of Louisiana President & CEO Judy Reese Morse. “These apprenticeships break down barriers and open doors—helping our people not only find jobs, but build futures. We’re proud to lead this effort to make the promise of economic mobility real for more Louisiana families.”

The Skill Up Louisiana apprenticeship programs are designed to meet the evolving workforce needs of Louisiana’s most promising industries while providing career seekers with hands-on training, industry-recognized credentials, and a direct connection to employers ready to hire. These programs combine classroom instruction with paid, on-the-job experience, making them an ideal pathway for those who want to earn while they learn.

Urban League of Louisiana Vice President for Workforce Development Cherie LaCour-Duckworth said, “This is about making sure people know that opportunity is within reach. From clean energy to cutting-edge tech, we’re helping our community step into the future with real training and real career pathways.”

Participants can pursue apprenticeships in a range of high-growth fields, including:

  • Wind, Solar, and Hydrogen Energy – preparing Louisiana residents for careers in the fast-growing clean energy sector with roles in installation, maintenance, and energy systems management.
  • Automotive Technology – partnering with dealerships and service providers to train the next generation of certified technicians.
  • Cybersecurity and Artificial Intelligence (AI) – providing cutting-edge training in digital infrastructure and machine learning, two fields critical to the future economy.
  • Drone Technology – preparing participants for commercial drone operation across sectors like construction, disaster recovery, and logistics.
  • Construction and Lineworker Programs – equipping students for infrastructure careers in skilled trades and utility maintenance.

Many of these programs lead to Department of Labor-registered certifications that hold the same value as a college degree and are portable across the country. Apprentices are not only equipped with skills but also supported through career coaching, job placement services, and wraparound resources provided by the Urban League of Louisiana and its partners.

Apprenticeships are currently open, and interested individuals are encouraged to explore available programs and take the first step toward a new career today.
