Canal Pointe allows mothers to remain with their children while receiving substance use treatment
NEW ORLEANS — Today, Volunteers of America Southeast Louisiana (VOASELA) held a grand opening ceremony for Canal Pointe – New Orleans’ only family-centered residential treatment and recovery support facility. Located at 1801 Canal St. in New Orleans, the facility utilizes VOASELA’s evidence-based opioid and substance use disorder treatment and recovery model for pregnant and parenting women and their children. VOASELA’s trauma-informed services at Canal Pointe will keep families together in a residential treatment setting and partner with women in the community on their recovery journey.
“This is a monumental day for our organization,” said Voris Vigee, CEO and President of VOASELA. “The Canal Pointe facility will allow for holistic family focused recovery that keeps families together, combining behavioral health services, case management, parenting support, recovery coaching, life-skills training and stabilization services all under one roof.”
Canal Pointe features 31 private rooms designed to support mothers and children together. The facility also offers residents three family community rooms, computer lab, learning kitchen, outdoor courtyard and infant quite room.
VOASELA inspires self-sufficiency, dignity and hope by providing critical health and human services to thousands of vulnerable individuals and families across Southeast Louisiana. The projected annual impact of Canal Pointe is to serve approximately 150-200 mothers and children per year with sustainable pathways to recovery, stability and independence.
Canal Pointe is accepting donations for hygiene items, household cleaning supplies and new clothes. If interested in supporting, please visit Canal Pointe’s Amazon wish list here.
