NEW ORLEANS – Ochsner Blood Bank has announced upcoming blood donation events in the Greater New Orleans area for the month of January 2026. Ochsner shares they are working to meet people where they are by bringing blood donation opportunities to locations throughout southeastern Louisiana. Appointments can be made online; however, walk-ups are welcome.
In January, donors who give blood will receive their choice of a stainless-steel tumbler or a Mardi Gras-themed T-shirt designed by local artist Madi Hannan of Art by Madicat, while supplies last.
In addition, as part of a “New Year, New Donor, New You” promotion, first-time donors, individuals who have never donated with Ochsner Blood Bank or who have not donated in at least two years, will receive a complimentary day pass to Ochsner Fitness Centers, while supplies last.
While all blood types are accepted, we are especially in need of platelets and Type O red cells. Your donation plays a role in saving the lives of our patients and those in our community.
Blood donors must:
- Be at least 17-years-old and weigh at least 110 pounds.
- Be over cold or flu symptoms for 72 hours.
- Have had no dental work (including cleaning) in the past 72 hours.
- Have not donated whole blood in the last 8 weeks.
- Have had no transfusions for 3 months.
- Have not lived with a person who has had hepatitis in the past 3 months.
- Have had no tattoos in the past 3 months from a facility that is unlicensed or not regulated by a U.S. state.
