NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans announced today that it will mail formal collection notices to drivers with unpaid parking tickets in the coming weeks, kicking off a 60-day notice period before collection activities begin through the Louisiana Office of Debt Recovery (ODR). To give drivers one final opportunity to avoid added costs, the City has extended its through Oct 31.
ODR is a division of the Louisiana Department of Revenue that collects outstanding debt on behalf of state and local governments. When a balance is referred to ODR, a 15% collections fee is added, and the State can use enforcement tools such as intercepting tax refunds, garnishing wages, and levying bank accounts.
Program Success: Nearly $1 Million Collected, 9,000 Tickets Cleared
The City’s amnesty program has already proven successful, with drivers contributing nearly $1 million in payments and scheduled commitments since launch this summer. The program waives all late fees and provides flexible, interest-free payment plans for both parking and traffic camera tickets.
Since launching, drivers have:
- Started nearly 1,900 active payment plans
- Completed close to 300 plans
- Paid off more than 1,600 tickets in full
- Cleared almost 9,000 tickets total
- Contributed $339,000 in payments, with another $626,000 scheduled through active plans
How It Works
- Eligible Tickets: Parking tickets over 30 days old and traffic camera tickets more than 60 days past due (as of June 1, 2025)
- What’s Waived: 100% of late fees through October 31
- Payment Options: Pay in full or start an interest-free monthly plan ●
- How to Start: Visit nola.gov/nolatefees to look up tickets and choose a payment option — all online, available 24/7
Drivers are strongly encouraged to act before Oct. 31. After that date, unpaid parking tickets will enter the collections process with ODR, adding fees and reducing payment flexibility.
