City of New Orleans Launches Online Climate Action Plan and Greenhouse Gas Inventory Dashboards

NEW ORLEANS — The City of New Orleans today announced the launch of two new public facing tools that make it easier for the public to track local climate progress: a Climate Action Plan Dashboard and a Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Inventory Dashboard.

Led by the Office of Resilience & Sustainability, these dashboards are available on the City’s climate action website and are designed to translate complex climate data into clear, interactive visuals that support informed decision making, accountability, and community action.

Making climate action data available for analysis and action is a key commitment of the City’s 2022 climate strategy, Net Zero by 2050: A Priority List for Climate Action in New Orleans. That plan calls for transparent reporting on both climate actions and emissions trends so the public can see how local efforts align with the City’s long-term goal to reach net zero emissions by 2050.

“These dashboards are about accountability and continuity,” said Greg Nichols, Deputy Chief Resilience Officer. “They reflect years of work by City staff and community partners to turn climate commitments into real, measurable action. By making this information public and accessible, we are ensuring that residents can clearly see what has been accomplished, what is underway, and what still needs to be done. Transparency like this is essential to sustaining progress, regardless of political or administrative changes.”

Climate Action Plan Dashboard

The Climate Action Plan Dashboard displays progress on the actions and targets identified in the City’s 2022 Climate Action Strategy across the priorities of Energy, Transportation, Waste, the Climate Action Economy, and Adaptation & Nature-Based Solutions. Users can quickly track progress on targets and actions, see how projects support broader climate goals, and understand how ongoing work aligns with the City’s net zero commitments.

Greenhouse Gas Inventory Dashboard

The GHG Inventory Dashboard displays community wide greenhouse gas emissions data for New Orleans from 2014, 2017, 2021, and 2023. It allows users to view emissions trends over time, understand contributions from major sectors like buildings, transportation, and waste, and download data for analysis, planning, or advocacy.

Both dashboards make climate data easier to access and use, strengthening coordination across City agencies, utilities, nonprofits, businesses, and residents. They will be updated regularly as new project and emissions data become available.

Residents can explore the dashboards and learn more about New Orleans climate priorities on the City’s climate action webpage: https://nola.gov/climate-action.
