Magdalene Hosts First New Orleans Fashion Show at Marigny Opera House

NEW ORLEANS – Haute couturier Magdalene is hosting his first New Orleans fashion show on Sunday, Oct. 5. Magdalene shares he began teaching himself to sew when he was seven years old and after numerous fashion shows in his native Kansas, moved to London to study at the prestigious Central Saint Martins. He continued his education in Paris at the world’s first fashion school ESMOD (École supérieure des arts et techniques de la mode) where he graduated with a major in Haute Couture Traditionelle. After five years working in the industry in Paris, the pandemic lead Magdalene back to the US and eventually to New Orleans.

The North Field Fashion Show is a continuation of the world built by Magdalene’s last two collections: 2023’s Magdalene’s Bait & Tackle and 2024’s The Magdalene Mint, each an “independent enterprise that meets a bad end”. This entry in the ongoing narrative, Dairy Magdalene, grapples with the question “What to do after a fire?” (as The Magdalene Mint was sadly arsoned) and explores the answer “Look yonder”. This multi-media spectacle is Magdalene’s singular vision featuring clothing designed & sewn, film shot & edited, and music recorded & mixed by the designer.

Dairy Magdalene’s North Field Fashion Show will be held in the historic Marigny Opera House with a reception to follow at textile artist Kate Beck’s Alquimie Studio on the corner of Chartres & Port. The show will feature music by local musicians Josh Kelner, Bogdan Mynka, and Law Noise in addition to a score that traces Blues history from farm to future, centering around Louisiana native Lead Belly.

Organizers share the one-night-only show is the culmination of Magdalene’s two decade career and New Orleans’s electric energy that inspires his work. It is open to the public with a suggested donation of $10.
