NEW ORLEANS – Crescent City Stage announced it will pause its annual production of “A Christmas Carol” this holiday season as the company addresses three key realities: reduced arts funding, limited venue availability and smaller post-pandemic audiences. Rather than scale back, the company shares it is using this moment to focus on two priorities: finding a permanent home for its productions and growing its new Magazine Street studio.
“We’re proud of what we’ve built over the past three years,” said Artistic Director Elizabeth Elkins Newcomer. “After producing nine shows at Loyola’s Marquette Theater, our next step is to establish a permanent home for our work.”
While that search continues, Crescent City Stage will expand programming at its Magazine Street studio, which opened earlier this year. The space offers youth and adult acting classes and will host community events like Halloween on Magazine Street on Oct. 31.
“The studio allows us to deepen our educational mission and connect with the community in new ways,” said Newcomer. “It’s a stepping stone toward a permanent theatre that supports artists, tells meaningful stories, and reflects our vibrant city.”
“We’re forging new partnerships to sustain our work,” said Producing Executive Director Michael A. Newcomer. “Securing a permanent home is our top priority, ideally in Orleans Parish, but we’re exploring all options.”
