NEW ORLEANS — After three weeks and welcoming 52 students aged 5 to 16 at the Anna’s Place NOLA Summer Youth Program, an awards ceremony Sunday, July 25, 10:30 am, 1331 Esplanade Avenue, will present the Empowering Potential Scholarship Fund grants to program teens entering college in the fall.
The scholarship program was established by the community of St. Anna’s Episcopal Church and donors in the community who wished to help the Youth Program graduates that have been accepted into college. Many of these winners are the first in their families to attend college and have participated in the Youth Program and its Summer Camp for six or more years. Originally started to serve children from the Treme neighborhood, Anna’s Place NOLA After-School and Summer Programs are now open to any student aged 5 to 18 able to afford a small registration fee for its Fall program.
This summer, volunteers from Jesuit High School helped the program log over 1100 hours of help serving meals, instructing students in reading and math skills, or participating in the wide array of arts and life skills programs.
