NEW ORLEANS
— The little stone church at 1313 Esplanade Avenue in the Tremé neighborhood will host an evening “Loving Festival Mass” on Wednesday, June 2, 6 p.m., followed by an ice cream social and book signing by local author Erik Alexander, The Adventures of Addie Underwater.
The Loving Festival is modeled after Loving Day multicultural celebrations across the country that organize people to fight racial prejudice through education and build a multicultural community. The Loving Festival also honors the legacy of Richard and Mildred Loving, the interracial couple whose 1967 landmark civil rights lawsuit “Loving v. Virginia” ended all race-based legal restrictions on marriage in the United States.
The public is invited and encouraged to join the Loving Festival organizers and church.
