NEW ORLEANS – St. Martin’s Episcopal School is proud to announce that Class of 2023 valedictorian Blake Verdigets is the recipient of a 2023 National Merit Tulane University Scholarship.
Blake is among a small number of additional winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by colleges and universities for up to four years of undergraduate study at the institution financing the scholarship.
While at St. Martin’s, Blake was a member of the National Honor Society and Cum Laude Society. He was also an active member of the Science Olympiad team and the Quiz Bowl Team and served on the St. Martin’s Honor Council.
A dedicated athlete, Blake was a captain of the cross country team, and a member of the soccer and track teams. As a senior Blake was named Most Valuable Track Athlete at the Regional Track meet where he was the region’s champion in 1600m and 800m.
Among all students who entered the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program, only about 16,000 were named Semifinalists. They were designated on a state representational basis, in proportion to each state’s percentage of the national total of graduating high school seniors. In order to advance in the competition and be considered for a Merit Scholarship award, a Semifinalist had to become a Finalist by fulfilling several requirements that included submitting a detailed scholarship application and presenting a record of very high academic performance.
