BATON ROUGE – Today, the Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC) congratulates Marcus Thomas on his position as Director of Early Childhood Systems within the Office of Governor Jeff Landry. The position continues the long-established partnership between LPIC and the executive branch and ensures enhanced cross-collaboration between state agencies to improve the experiences of children and their families across Louisiana.
“Supporting Louisiana’s youngest citizens and their working parents is a top priority,” said Governor Jeff Landy. “I am confident Marcus has the experience and knowledge necessary to excel in this role and do great things for our state.”
In his role, Thomas will work closely with state agencies to enhance the quality and accessibility of early childhood education and well-being services for working families and their children while supporting economic and workforce development.
“I am honored to take on this role and work with Governor Landry to make a meaningful impact on early childhood in our state,” said Marcus Thomas. “We are not only supporting the development of our youngest learners but also laying the foundation for a stronger workforce and a more robust economy.”
Thomas has a long history of advocating for children and their education, most recently serving as the Director of Government Relations for the Louisiana Association of Educators (LAE). His extensive background in advocating for educational initiatives in the legislature positions him as an exemplary leader in advancing the state’s initiatives in this critical area.
“Marcus’s experience and leadership will be instrumental in strengthening our early childhood system and ensuring that every child in our state has the best possible start in life,” said Libbie Sonnier, executive director for LPIC. “His experience with the legislature and deep commitment to education make him a valuable addition to the governor’s team.”
Thomas holds a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology and exercise science from Louisiana State University.
