Libbie Sonnier Named Women in Government Relations Advocate of The Year

Louisiana Policy Institute for Children Chief Executive Officer honored in Washington D.C.

BATON ROUGE – The Louisiana Policy Institute for Children (LPIC) is proud to announce that its Chief Executive Officer Dr. Libbie Sonnier has been named the Women in Government Relations (WGR) Advocate of the Year. Dr. Sonnier was recognized for her outstanding contributions to child and family advocacy at the WGR Excellence in Advocacy Awards reception held in Washington D.C. on September 25.

“I am incredibly honored to receive this recognition,” said Sonnier. “This award highlights the importance of our work advocating for policies that ensure all young children in Louisiana have the opportunity to thrive. I am grateful for the collective efforts of our team, our partners and the communities we serve.”

The Women in Government Relations (WGR) organization has been a leader in advancing and empowering women in government advocacy since its founding in 1975. The Excellence in Advocacy Awards celebrate women advocates who demonstrate exceptional leadership and commitment to driving policy solutions at all levels of government.

Under Dr. Sonnier’s leadership, LPIC has made significant strides in shaping policies that directly impact early childhood education, healthcare and family support systems. Her work has brought national attention to Louisiana’s efforts in ensuring that every child has the foundation needed for long-term success, particularly in underserved communities.
