Gov. Edwards Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

BATON ROUGE — Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to the following Louisiana boards and commissions.

Task Force on Available and Affordable Commercial Motor Vehicle Insurance

The Task Force on Available and Affordable Commercial Motor Vehicle Insurance studies, reviews, and reports on impediments to obtaining affordable commercial motor vehicle insurance in Louisiana.

Mr. Frederick J. “Eric” Holl of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Task Force on Available and Affordable Commercial Motor Vehicle Insurance. Mr. Holl is the deputy chief of staff for communications and special projects for the Office of the Governor. He will serve as a designee of the Governor.

Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund Board

The Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund Board provides funds for non-profit and public agencies throughout the state for the prevention of child abuse and neglect.

Pastor Mary W. Moss of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Louisiana Children’s Trust Fund Board. Ms. Moss is the Pastor with St. Alma Baptist Church in Lakeland. She will represent the religious community.

Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention

The Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention encourages and assists the state, local governments, and private non-profit agencies in the comprehensive improvement of the juvenile justice system in Louisiana. The board provides advice and counsel to the Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement, the Louisiana Legislature, and the Governor on ways to facilitate greater effectiveness within the juvenile justice system.

Ms. Elaine M. Davis of Baker was appointed to the Governor’s Advisory Board of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Ms. Davis was an assistant state director for the Louisiana Department of Education’s Special School District 1. She will serve as a person with special experience and competence in addressing problems related to school violence and vandalism and alternatives to suspension and expulsion.

Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board

The Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board oversees the licensure of professional engineers and professional land surveyors. The Board works to safeguard life, health, and property and to promote the public welfare.

Mr. Gordon E. Nelson of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Mr. Nelson is a project manager for Volkert, Inc. He will serve as a licensed professional engineer employed in the field of construction.

Mr. John J. Plaisance II of Cut Off was appointed to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Mr. Plaisance is the director of operations for GIS Engineering, LLC in Galliano. He will serve as a licensed professional engineer and will represent private practice of engineering.

Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges

The Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges severs as the management board for Louisiana’s public two-year institutions. Their mission is to improve the quality of life of the state’s citizens through education programs offered through their colleges.

Tari T. Bradford of Shreveport was reappointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Ms. Bradford is senior assistant to the mayor of Shreveport. She will represent Congressional District 4.

Joseph G. Hollins of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Mr. Hollins is the executive director of the Louisiana Offshore Terminal Authority. He will serve at-large.

Alterman L. Jackson of Lafayette was reappointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Mr. Jackson retired as the university registrar for the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He will represent Congressional District 3.

Michael J. Murphy of Bogalusa was reappointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Mr. Murphy was the dean of the Sullivan Campus of Louisiana Technical College. He will represent Congressional District 5.

Matthew J. Wood of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Board of Supervisors of Community and Technical Colleges. Mr. Wood is the secretary/treasurer of the Louisiana AFL-CIO. He will serve at-large.

Red River Waterway Commission

The Red River Waterway Commission was created for the purpose of establishing, operating, and maintaining the Red River Waterway, a navigable waterway system, extending from the vicinity of the confluence of Red River with Old River and the Atchafalaya River northwestward in the Red River Valley to the state boundary.

Mr. Kenneth A. Richardson of Colfax was appointed to the Red River Waterway Commission. Mr. Richardson is a farmer and rancher in Colfax. He will represent Grant Parish.

Mr. Michael B. Simpson of Coushatta was reappointed to the Red River Waterway Commission. Mr. Simpson is a farmer and rancher in Coushatta. He will represent Red River Parish.

Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners

The Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners exists to safeguard the public health, safety, and welfare of the people of this state against unauthorized, unqualified, and improper practice of social work though a proper regulatory authority.

Ms. Candice C. Sorapuru Scales was appointed to the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners. Ms. Sorapuru Scales is the co-founder and director of clinical operations for Innovative Approaches Counseling Center. She will serve as a licensed clinical social worker rendering direct services.

Louisiana Emergency Response Commission

The Louisiana Emergency Response Commission (LERC), whose purpose is to coordinate the State’s planning and preparedness activities for hazardous materials compliance with Title III, oversees the activities of an LEPC.

Jerrie D. “Jerry” Lang of Baton Rouge was appointed to the Louisiana Emergency Response Commission. Mr. Lang is an administrator for the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality. He will serve as a designee of the Secretary for the Department of Environmental Quality.
