Catholic Charities Celebrates 100th Anniversary

NEW ORLEANSCatholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is celebrating its centennial anniversary, marking the milestone with a series of events throughout the year. Since 1924, Catholic Charities has remained steadfast in its commitment to offering life-giving programs, advocating for the voiceless, and empowering the vulnerable to foster a just society.

“Our centennial year is a testament to the enduring impact of faith in action,” said Sister Marjorie Hebert, the organization’s president and CEO. “This year, we will recognize our staff, volunteers and supporters who have positively affected the lives of those we serve. We are deeply honored and grateful for the opportunity to care for Louisiana residents and look forward to continuing this important work for years to come.”

Throughout its history, Catholic Charities has adapted to meet the evolving needs of individuals and families across the Greater New Orleans area. The organization offers nearly two dozen programs and services including shelter for the homeless, counseling to those in crisis, adoption and foster care, housing and disaster relief, and English as a Second Language (ESL) classes for immigrants and refugees. Catholic Charities’ diverse array of offerings consistently bring real change while encouraging others to follow the generosity of those who came before them.

Catholic Charities is hosting several private and public events this year to honor its legacy and community engagement, including a volunteer appreciation prayer walk at the Notre Dame Seminary on April 20 and an anniversary mass at the St. Louis Cathedral on Nov. 17 which the community is invited to join.
