Karen Carter Peterson is a native New Orleanian with a large family and deep roots in Louisiana. As a leader in the state legislature, Karen established herself as a bold, progressive voice for working people. While serving in Baton Rouge, Karen fought to get communities the help they needed after Hurricane Katrina, led the charge to expand Medicaid in Louisiana while serving on President Obama’s Affordable Care Act Task Force, and stood up for reproductive freedom whenever those rights were threatened.
